The website also contains a number of sections on emotional disorders (types of distress section) and provides some useful statistics. Every counsellor on the site who has submitted their profile has either sent a copy of their qualifications and insurance cover to us, or is registered with a professional body online with recognised codes of ethics and practice, this way we can be assured of their professionalism.

The UK’s largest ever art project ‘Face Britain’ to be launched by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts
The UK’s largest ever mass collaborative art project gets underway with the launch of Face Britain. This unique project created by The Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts is open to all children and young people aged 4-16 years throughout the UK and gives them the opportunity to create self portraits which will be publicly displayed across the country. The portraits will be exhibited alongside contributions from Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons, Fearne Cotton, Amir Khan, Ade Adepitan, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Tracey Emin, Quentin Blake, Rankin, James Naughtie and a host of other famous names and faces.
Officially launched 14th September 2011 at Imagination Gallery, London, Face Britain will also attempt to establish a new Guinness World RecordsTM title for the Most artists working on the same art installation. The self-portraits can be uploaded onto the Face Britain online gallery, brought to life by PhotoBox, between September 2011 and March 2012. Portraits will be displayed on all the BBC Big Screens which become official London 2012 Live Sites next year. In addition, prominent JCDecaux digital screens across the UK, will provide a unique snapshot of how the nation’s young people see themselves. It’s not a competition so any child can take part, regardless of ability or circumstance.
Speaking on film at the Face Britain launch event, HRH The Prince of Wales said:
“As Founder and President of The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts, I firmly believe that everyone should have the opportunity, at an early age, to be given access to and to be inspired by the arts. Sustained access to performance and visual arts can empower children to explore their creativity and to enhance their personal development and self-esteem.
With this in mind, I am delighted that my Foundation for Children and the Arts is to invite all children and young people in the United Kingdom to engage actively in the art of self-portraiture and to participate in Face Britain.
Everyone aged four to sixteen years of age is invited to create a self-portrait in their own personal choice of style. The only stipulation for all participants is that it has to be you – you are Face Britain.”
Portraits at all levels of skill and in any medium are acceptable including drawing, textiles, 3D, painting, graphics and photography. By providing a platform for young people to consider their own identity and place within history, Face Britain aims to celebrate the nation's children and future in the lead up to HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, for example, all portraits from the online gallery will be combined to create a montage portrait of HM The Queen, to be projected onto the frontage of Buckingham Palace in the Spring and showcased on the BBC Big Screens across the UK and on JCDecaux’s national network of digital screens in a host of major train stations, shopping centres and prime roadside locations.
“Face Britain lets people express themselves in whatever way they want. You don't have to be a great artist, it is about taking part in something fun.” Niamh, 11, Northern Ireland, Face Britain Youth Council
Visit www.facebritain.org.uk for further details on how to register, take part and access a growing library of online teaching resources with links and images supplied by The National Portrait Gallery, Getty Images and The National Archives.
By working closely with teachers and schools Children & the Arts aims to increase access to and understanding of visual arts in UK schools. Face Britain was created with every type of classroom in mind, benefiting from valuable input from advisory boards of both teachers and pupils. It will also involve charitable organisations, youth groups, special needs schools and children who are young carers, home taught or in hospital.
Over 30,000 registration packs have been sent out to every school in the UK along with a letter from Michael Morpurgo, the author, former Children’s Laureate and long-standing supporter of Children & the Arts. Morpurgo is one of the many high profile ambassadors who are fast signing up to support this incredible project.
The Face Britain online gallery is brought to life by PhotoBox. Overthrow Digital, BBC, JCDecaux, St Ives Plc, The Partners, Arjowiggins Creative Papers, Royal Mail Group, Imagination, The National Portrait Gallery, The National Archives, Getty Images and Winsor & Newton are also providing generous support for the project.
About The Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts
Children & the Arts champions the power of the arts to transform the lives of children around the UK. Early engagement with the arts has a positive impact on young people: raising aspirations, increasing confidence, developing communication skills, and improving academic performance in class. We’d be happy to pre record the interview before the show if people are worried about going live and we would do the short interview over the phone. It would be great to speak to someone in Norfolk who has either battled with the pressures of the school catchment area or has done everything possible to ensure their child has got into the state school of their choice. Perhaps there’s a parent who is now looking at league tables and is in the process of choosing a secondary school for their child?

The Observer, Sunday 27 December 2009

Sir Steve Redgrave has criticised the organisers of the London Olympic Games for being shortsighted in planning the sporting legacy for the UK.
The record-breaking Olympian, who won five consecutive gold medals for rowing, says those involved in the Games are not looking far enough into the future. “Everything seems to be very short-term at the moment – there has been little talk about what is going to happen in the years after the Olympics. The success of these games will not even be what happens in 2013, but what happens in 2020 and beyond.” Redgrave, who is advising the government on how to get more people taking part in sport in his role as “2012 sports champion”, also warned that the country had reached a tipping point, with too many children and adults leading sedentary lives. “We are very much on a brink – if you look across to America, obesity rates are sky-high,” said Redgrave. “In some parts of the US if you can’t drive somewhere, you don’t go.” He warned that Britons also had to be aware of a general lack of activity. “There are scary statistics that suggest our children might die at a younger age than we will – that life expectancy will start to fall.” Redgrave described how as a child he would ride his bike, play football and climb trees all around his Buckinghamshire home, less than an hour’s drive from London. “It is more commuter belt now, and there is not the same freedom. Society has changed. We used to walk to school, but now most of the kids get dropped off and picked up.” The former rower said part of the problem was safety concerns. Redgrave is helping to draw up a document that will advise ministers on what must be done to ensure a sporting legacy from the games. He is expected to call for former sports stars to come out of retirement to help inspire children and adults. He will also propose a mass participation scheme in a wide range of sports using clubs around the company. A spokeswoman for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport said the only way to turn the tide on obesity was for government, families and industry to work together. She said school and youth sport had never been so well funded, with £2bn of ring-fenced investment between 2003 and 2011.
“All children should have the opportunity to play sport, no matter what their background or ability. Today 90% of pupils are doing two hours of PE and sport per week in schools, but we want to go even further. In the run-up to 2012, our focus now is on the challenging ambition of getting young people to take up the offer of five hours of sport a week, in and out of school time.” She also highlighted a major play strategy that aimed to get children having fun with friends instead of sitting indoors.
Margaret Morrissey, founder of the website Parents Outloud, said part of the problem was that there was too little space for children to play and complained of youth centres closing down in her region. “They are building smaller houses with minute gardens,” she said. “So children don’t have anywhere safe to go
