Wow -I am so sad to see the end of the DCFS and the return of the Department of Education!!! As a parent Support worker in schools I have seen so many childrens' outcomes improved through the wrap around support to schools. Children need more than numeracy and literacy. They need all their every child matters outcomes to be achieved to even be able to learn -they need to feel safe, to contribute, to be healthy, to make a positive contribution etc... Families need emotional and social support. I totally agree that parents should have more say in their childrens' education so that's something we agree on at least. I am sad to see that many great initiatives may come to an end and support for children, young people and families could be severely compromised where it REALLY makes a difference! It'll mean more children that end up needing a higher level of intervention from professional services further down the line rather than early intervantion, preventative support. Sad times.
