School Packed Lunches

packedlunchToday’s release by government to change children’s diet through school meals and in particular packed lunches may be welcomed by some but will equally cause many family real problems. Parents through time have struggles to provide a balance packed school lunch not an easy task especially if the child is only 4/5 years old. One of the suggestions is an avocado salad I would argue that anyone with a 4 year old would not have the expectations of them managing to cope with this in a school dining hall without a significant amount of help. Also we must remember not all children have developed such a sophisticated palate. We eat to live we eat to enjoy and after sandwiches, fruit or grated vegetable where is the harm in a biscuit or other sweet desert. How many people realise there is more sugar in a fresh apple than in many biscuits or a piece of chocolate. Whilst we need as parents to make our children health conscious it should be a natural event not an obsession to eat a meal and children should not be frightened of going to the school canteen or eating lunch in a classroom for fear of an adult arriving to check and confiscate their food or put a condemned sticker on it. Government ask us to be responsible parents do they not need to leave us to put this into practice or do they want to drive children from school lunches. It would be interesting to see the content of Ed Balls children lunch boxes.

Hello Margaret. On what basis can Parents Outloud be described - in the words of The Daily Mail today - as a lobby group when it just seems to be you and 17 posts in 9 months on a blog?

Therefore, I would, if I may, ask you some questions:

1.How many members do you have?

    2. Is membership open to all parents?

    3. Is membership open to all with an interest in UK education?

    4. Do you have any connections with any religious group or body?

    5. Would you rather take the approach of Sarah Palin and leave sex education to the playground?

    6. Do you have any links to any political party?

The reason for my concern is that The Mail, inter alia, has a worrying tendency to quote unelected groups such as Migratiowatch, Taxpayers’ Alliance, Civitas, without explaining their locus standi on matters, and whether they have any axe to grind.

You will recall the mistakes made by the media when quoting Mary Whitehouse’s latest thoughts as fresh from Mount Sinai.

I look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards,

    Eric The Fish
