I've been reading the Cambrdge Primary Review and it does indeed gladden the heart; I think best of all is the fact that it is very hopeful and positive, while at the same time honest about some of the crazy things that need to change. It's so refreshing to hear the balanced, rational views all based on a wealth of evidence in one report. I really hope that some sensible action and debate comes out of it. The fact that there have some dismissive responses to it from the government probably reflects the fact that it's asking them to think about things more reasonably and accept some of the very compelling evidence that I'm sure to many people will seem counter-intuitive.

It's a fine piece of work and I congratulate all those who've been involved in it.

Professor Robin Alexander has vast experience in research of the primary sector and is very well placed to comment with authority on the changes which have pervaded primary education over the last 40+ years. It is indeed sad, that such a well researched and well reasoned report can be distilled by journalists and politicians into simple sound bites which are the antithesis of what reasoned debate is about.

I received my copy of "Children their world, their Education" today. I have made a start, completed section 1 and have not been disappointed. If you know anything of Robin Alexander you will be aware that he is not given to making claims or statements which are not founded in research.
So far I have found the report to be very readable and I would hope that all professionals and interested parties will immerse themselves in the debate. I commend all who are interested in the education of children to move past the press coverage and delve into thsi well argued report.
