Children at nursery school mimic other around them follow what parents do and visitors also have an impact on nursery school age children. Young children do you right from wrong, although at time they do not know exactly what some words mean and do not think of consequences of there actions. Missing children with all races helps combat this issue for the child’s future life. Nursery teachers could and should do more to help as with parents.

No...by definition a pre school child does not know what bullying is but can they do it...of course they can. Can they define racism... probably not but can they be taught to be afraid of differences...absolutely. I think what is important is not whether they can give a Webster’s dictionary definition of PC terms but rather, shown how to create a pattern of thinking that accepts instead of condemns and listens instead of criticizes. This is not a task isolated to the young, nor is it an easy one. Society, all societies, are woven with fear and all the terms we desperately create to explain the manifestation of this fear will drop away once we address the foundational problem.

I agree with Andy Cooper.
This government's answer to every undesirable problem in society is to teach ever younger children all about it!
Thus introducting many innocents to the world of drugs, sex, racism and violence.

When will someone realise the way to instil a healthy attitude towards others and life in general is to teach children the good aspects. If they are taught co-operation and mutual respect by example and by experience they will absorb the message.
Teaching them all about the negatives will not stop those who are intent on trying some of these out and could even encourage future inappropriate behaviour.

It seems like everyone is so worked up about this that they are just going crazy, the state and those who vehemently oppose discussing race with children. The state is far overreacting to the problem, while their opposition seems to think pretending there isn't a problem will make it go away. IMHO a problem has indeed been created, but not in a way anyone seems to recognize. Everyone seems so caught up in their own ideology that they can no longer communicate.

I would propose that children do indeed notice people different from them, the idea that children are naturally "colorblind" is wishful thinking. Some parents seem to believe that if they never speak of race, their children will never draw any negative conclusions about other cultures, but the kids want to know why some people are different, so they learn it from the playground, other kids and even TV. Those views might be abhorrent to the parents. Avoiding racial/cultural issues with children can have unintended consequences, parents need to get over their embarrassment and just talk to their kids about other kinds of people, the children will find the answers to their questions, it is better if their own parents engage them. (hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil doesn't work)

Although it doesn't help, the state finds reason to intervene because some kids are coming to school without any preparation by their parents to encounter racial/cultural differences, they learn and use these epithets because that is all they know about race, parents find out their kid has been called awful, hurtful names and are understandably upset (we aren't talking childish names either, this is 'N'word territory) . Children are giving other children their half-baked ideas because their parents have not given them everything they need to deal with a multicultural society. The state is very wrong to think this kind of intervention is helping, but some parents reaction against it is to insist their children need exactly the kind of protectionism that is causing the problem, rather than even trying to find out more or better yet, what they can do. The state should be helping the parents by giving access to resources that can help them impart their own views to their children, because it is a difficult subject for some people. So if those parents who need some advice get it, their kids won't have to find the answers to their questions from undesirable sources (that means you, telly).

There are lots of reasons why the state is wrong to do what they are, but I won't explain them all here. What I will say is that the quickest way to get them to stop is to give them a better solution, parents need to stop crying out for blood (except where it is truly warranted) and come together with the educators to teach children good manners.

Though it sometimes varies, by definition an infant can't speak or walk. so I think the claim of infant bullying by the poster of this article might be misrepresentative and phrased to rile people against their 'enemies', rather than inform or help in any way to address these issues. I would even go so far as to say that the author should consider that they are part of the problem and might try collaborating with whoever educates their children rather than just attacking them on the internet. Almost everyone commenting here is also just whining about things that largely do not exist. Don't worry, if you complain enough about how you don't like the way other people try to solve the problems that you can't, other will solve that problem for you.

All teachers are "do-gooders". You don't do this sort of job for the perks. What we need is more "righty" conservatives. You know, the ones who run the banks and make loads of money. Oh wait a second. They just ruined the economy.

And speaking as a lefty teacher for many years, believe me when I say there is little that I can do to stop a child being racist, homophobic or sexist. That's where the parents have the really profound effect.

And sex education hasn't created a "nation" of underage single mums. Try looking at the parents who allow their kids to get into this situation.

And finally, the policy is desgned to prevent casual racism from being okay - it is not necessarily to PUNISH kids, but to ensure that such things are dealt with. You can deal with racism by talking to children - they need to LEARN that it's wrong. That's how the world gets better.

Don't you think this is all looking a little paranoid? The so called loony left, PC brigade are the people who have helped get rid of casual rascism and sexism. Remember all those text books that only referenced 'he' and never 'she'? And really, sex education causes single mothers? Nothing is that simple. Many of these problems start in the home. Take some responsibility. Peace and love!

We seem to be allowing an entire generation of our children to be educated by politically correct do gooder liberals.

THEY ARE BRAIN WASHING OUR KIDS.

A recent national poll showed that something like 80% (I don't remember the actual figure, of teachers believed it to be racist to teach patriotism...........
Maybe if we taught a little patriotism, civil pride and civic responsibility then society would not be in such a mess!!!!! Perhaps then we could reintegrate the left wing PC brigade into society.
