Hello,
I am producing an item on You and Yours on Radio Four next Wednesday, January 27th about school uniforms. Tescos are planning to sell school uniforms with bespoke embroidered crests. Tesco is promising to undercut specialists by at least 40 per cent. It already offers a £3.75 school uniform without a crest. Many parents are unable to buy cut-price uniforms because some schools stipulate that clothing must bear the school logo. Nearly one parent in in five is forced to buy school uniform and sports kit from a single preferred supplier, according to the Government. If Tesco does undercut rivals by 40 per cent, it could bring the cost of a sweatshirt with embroidered crest down to £5 and a polo shirt to £3.60. The shop has already lobbied 1,448 state schools in Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Sheffield and Hertfordshire. The pilot scheme, on polo shirts and sweatshirts in a range of colours, is expected to be ready by September. I am looking for someone who thinks that this is a good idea and would be willing to buy the uniforms from Tescos. I would be keen if you could contact me at bernadette.mcconnell@bbc.co.uk with a phone number and I can ring you back. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Many thanks,
Bernadette
