Romeo Beckham’s modelling debut won many column inches in the newspapers on Tuesday, but it has, apparently, failed to impress the editor of Vogue, Alexandra Shulman.

She declares that her magazine will refuse to write about the 10-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham. “Romeo Beckham doesn’t meet Vogue model health-initiative criteria of over-16s only,” Shulman says. “Under-16 model ban is in pages of our magazine.”

Her remarks are questioned by the model Edie Campbell, who appears in the Burberry advertisement alongside Romeo.

The 22-year-old Campbell questions why Shulman published an interview, and ran photographs, with Chloë Moretz, the American actress, 15. “What about features on, for example, Chloë Moretz?” Campbell asks.

Shulman responds that the interview with Moretz appeared before Vogue introduced its ban on under-16s. “But child actors are probably in a different category,” she says, somewhat confusingly.

The former England captain and his wife were criticised for allowing Romeo to pose for the photographs, which will be used in an international campaign by the fashion house. “Children should be kept out of the limelight, whether they are two or 10,” said Margaret Morrissey, of the website Parentsoutloud.com

The Beckhams are currently looking for schools for three of their children after moving back to the United Kingdom from Los Angeles.
